Wondering if anyone on this forum lived in Kauai 20 years ago and experienced Hurricane Iniki - we are at the 20 year anniversary - seems if the island recoverd well and all the wild chickens are mostly the aftermath.

Don't forget the scar of Coco Palms. Completely ridiculous that they have not torn it down or re-built it. It is a scar on the Garden Island.

I never understand what people have against the derelict building that was the Coco Palms. Everyone has a scar on their bodies. You can't do anything about it. It reminds you of an injury, and if it was your own fault, it reminds you to be more careful next time.

The Coco Palms is what it is because of zoning, changing attitudes (some for the better, others not), weak government, and developer greed. There is nothing that discussion on an internet forum (or lots of wishing and praying) can change. I'm pretty sure it is better the way it is than any other likely outcome. The preferable outcomes are all unlikely, and short of becoming a dedicated community activist, I don't see how I could change that.

Thanks for the video, wow, what a grand old place. Very sad to see it in such a state of decay.

Oh that just breaks my heart. It's like a scene from Jurassic park! And a reminder of the transitory nature of all things, as well as the power of Hurricanes to destroy anything man made.

I spent many happy days at Coco Palms back in the 70's and 80's. I'm glad the chapel is still being used and the grounds are being used for films.

Here's
another clip about the Coco Palms
