The Y downtown was completely refurbished when they built the new condos on top of it. It's next door to the UT Conference Center.

We are members of the YMCA and it's great, and the cheapest for a family.
If you want a more 'upscale' gym CourtSouth right over the bridge south of downtown also has a tanning bed in it.
I think you should check out the Y though.

Im not really looking for just "upscale" but i dont want to be in a dungeon either. I haven't gone by the YMCA, I know the one close to were I used to live in Raleigh just got an amazing facelift and renovation. If the one you guys mentioned looks like that, it'll be a easy decision. Its more for lifting weights and maybe a steam room, than going to classes and jazzercizing(sp?) haha. I know the Rush is apparently the best gym, but I dont want to have to drive on 40 in the afternoon to get there.
