Knoxville expected to add 24 miles of connective greenways

During Thursday's public meeting at the John T. O'Connor Center, Knoxville Mayor, Madeline Rogero, unveiled a plan to add 24 new miles of connective greenways in 13 different corridors.

Mayor Rogero said, “We’re currently developing multiple greenway extensions and upgrades, plus we’ve identified our best opportunities for building key connections in the immediate future. This study provides a blueprint for creating a true citywide trail network during the next 10 to 20 years.”

Her announcement came as part of the Greenway Corridor Feasibility and Assessment Study. Three years in the making, it is a blueprint for the most comprehensive greenways build-out in the City’s history.

The new greenway connections will give pedestrians and bicyclists more options. Instead of driving to work or taking public transportation to school, for example, you will now have the healthier option of walking or riding.

That is really great! How safe are the current greenways and are people good about leashing their dogs?
