Hi,

I'm travelling over from the UK spending three weeks travelling around TN, Georgia and SC in October, and will be staying 2 nights in Knoxville.

Unfortunately haven't timed it to see a football game, but is there anything else anyone could recommend to do or see whilst I'm there?

I'm in my 20's and will be travelling by myself, so any areas where there are bars or live music would be cool. I also like museums, buildings of interest, nature etc.

Also love BBQ so any good bbq recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I went on holiday to Texas last year and found Texans to be the most friendly people I've ever met - hopefully the people of Tennessee will be similar!

East Tennesseans are as friendly.

Market Square - definitely try Preservation Pub and Scruffy City - Gay Street from the Bijou to Sugar Mama's and Old City - the Jackson-Central area - will be lousy with young people and live music, depending on the day. Do you know when you will be here?

If you like nature, try Ijams Nature Center. It's a fabulous place.

We have a very small, but nice art museum. Other small, but good museums are the East Tennessee History Center and the McClung Museum on the UT campus. It's always nice to have a coffee or a drink in the Holiday Inn overlooking World's Fair Park, then take a walk around the park.

It's at least a half of a day to drive through and visit, but Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is just a breathtaking treasure. It doesn't take all that long to drive there but to get there, drive through it, and get back will take half of a day. However, the experience will stay with you for life. It is a special, magical place.

Welcome to the area for your vacaton. I gave my best recommendation elsewhere in this fora for BBQ. It was positively received. That would be Sweet P's but only their south Knoxville location.

Have fun!!
