Hi All

Why are pool screen enclosures so rare in Las Vegas? Most pools in Florida have a screen, yet in LV it seems like the complete opposite. Reading about the pests, insects, and wildlife, it sounds like they would be needed just like in Florida.

Thanks.

Florida = Tropical state built on a massive swamp. Hosts every insect known to man, and all of them are 5x normal size.

Nevada = Driest state in the country. No bugs to speak of.

No bugs here to speak of. We don't need them. But it might keep the wind from blowing stuff into the pool.

Yep, a HUGE PLUS for Las Vegas!

No fleas or mosquitos either.

Basically the opposite of Florida.

So you all get to sit by the pool without being attacked by flying things? Perfect!

On a side note. Can anyone recommend good pool builders they have had experience with, and also bad ones?

Thanks

Yep. You are not attacked by anything.

Building a pool probably works differently than you think it does. You hire a pool builder. They work with you on the shape/size/features/finishes. They hire an independent structural engineer to design structural elements, and have a draftsman draw up the plans & submit them to the city.

Once it is time to build, they subcontract out everything - excavation, forms, plumbing, electrical, concrete, tile, etc etc -- everyone who shows up at your home to actually, you know, do something, works for separate subcontractors (ok, this might be a slight exaggeration, but not much). And of course, because the pool builder hires XYZ plumbing to do the plumbing work doesn't mean that the specific guy who shows up at your house is the same guy who showed up at a reference house either.

Having said that, the large pool builders are usually pretty good. Try Anthony Sylvan.

NOWHERE NEAR the number of bugs as in FL. And, the screens would get very dusty/dirty in LV from the desert dust, which isn't an issue in FL.

That's odd. Because the "Florida Room" is a common real estate term in that state. Everyone knows what you're talking about if you say a house has a "Florida room with a pool."

Give Watters Aquatech a call. My pool was built by the father, back in 1988 when it was Watters Pool & Spa. If the son is anywhere as good as the father, they'll build you a good pool.
