So I was riding the WAX one day and was talking to the bus driver and he told me that there are a few public auctions where you can get surprisingly cheap cars.

Is it true? If so, what auctions you prefer or have tried?

Thanks a lot!

Did you Google this topic? Have you calculated insurance and registration expenses? Do you know what a FICO score is?

craigslist. Find a mechanic friend and bring him along, or pay someone to inspect the car for you.

^This

The problem with auctions is that most of the time you cannot drive or do any real inspections before you buy.

You can get a pretty good deal if you keep your eyes open. As stated above, use craigslist. I purchased a 5 year old car with low miles from a retired school teacher who had kept it pristine.

Having a mechanic look it over is critical. Call around if you do not know one. Make sure he is ASE master certified.

I agree.....and have cash IN HAND.....FIRST.....make them show you the title before you even get in the car....

Be careful of duplicate titles.....make sure the person signing the title is the one ON the title....

Do your negotiating.....then pull out your CASH and make one final offer......

Bought a car for my Grandson a couple of years ago....advertised for 2900....looked....drove....inspected the title AND the ID of the person selling it....then haggled back n forth....got to $2400.....pulled out $2000 cash....

He LOVES the car.

The Police used to have auctions of the cars they impounded for whatever reason.. Sometimes you could get a good deal there.... And when you went to the DMV with the paperwork from the auction, they did a lost title and got you a new one...

You should be aware that there are a lot of scams occurring presently in the Las Vegas CL auto listings. Make sure you run a Carfax.

Insurance isn't a problem since I have a virgin driving record and credit score is above national average. I don't know any mechanics because I'm new to Vegas, but Im sure I'll find one through my friends from school or co-workers. The bus driver said I can bribe one of the workers with the a quick 20 to tell me which cars to avoid, but the queatipn is that how do I find the right person to bribe? Craigslist is sketchy but it will considered and car fax is a must to know history of the car.

When you say you have a "virgin" driving record, do you mean that you have not been driving that long? or you have not been in any accidents?

I think the later will help you more.
