Our family is new to Vegas. We want to go to Mt. Charleston and look at the snow. We're planning on going early in the week. Where is the best place to go?

You could also spend time around the new Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway on Kyle Canyon Rd.

Head up Kyle Canyon road until you get to Mt Charleston Lodge. They have an adequate restaurant plus great views.

But strangely there isn't anywhere to actually "be" you're either in the restaurant or nothing once you get to the top.

You could go to the las vegas ski slopes which are fun though its quite prices to rent the outfits and equipment.

I think on the way up there is somewhere to pull in and walk trails also, is fairly easy to find.

Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway is nicely done and with trails as well. Play area, fire pit, trails up the mountain and it is easily reached from the valley.

On the way up Lee Canyon, there's an area for snow play just before you get to the ski resort. You can park on the left side of the road and walk across to a large flat area to let your kids play in the snow. Take care when parking, the area slopes down away from the road so if there is ice, it might be hard to get out.

By the way, since you are new to the area and possibly to this forum, be aware that ScoopLV is the local Cliff Claven of the board. He knows everything about everything, even if his advice isn't always helpful.
