I'm here in cloudy Las Vegas today. Flew in yesterday and hubby picked me up and we headed out to meet the landlord at the place he was looking at. We went ahead and rented it for six months. We got it for 600/mo and a six month lease, so I was happy. It's in Seven Hills.

Anyhoo, now I'm looking at setting up some utilities and hubby said he just wants the local channels. I was on the Cox site and it said the minimum package is $53.99 plus tax! Yikes! Seems like a lot to pay per month for someone who's hardly there.

Any other options? He doesn't need internet as his work pays for some service where he gets wireless anywhere and he doesn't need a phone because he has work cell phone.

Antennae. Works great for me. Some people seem to run into difficulty depending on where they live. However, it's nearly identical to Cox's most basic plan and half the channels come over the air in HD.

I tried a digital antenna with a signal booster and I can't get any network at all. But some others do receive network. Maybe he should buy an antenna and return it if it doesn't work. Might be worth a try. They are simple to hook up.

He's in a first floor condo. Is an antenna something that needs to have a clear sky view? Do you mount it outside or just on the TV? I guess a trip to Best Buy or whatever the electronics stores are out here is in order.

I'm sure some think it's chilly out here now, but I have to say, it felt great to me! It was -10*F yesterday morning when I left Minnesota.

Cox gets people by having them think the cheapest is-I think-what they call basic cable. But there's a cheaper plan that just gives you local stations & it's about $14/mo. You have to ask for it, they'll never offer it. Good luck.

I can pick up all the local channels with a $9.95 Phillips antenna from Target. Channel 3 is the only channel that gives me any issues and is corrected with a quick adjustment.

You're kind of screwed in Seven Hils. You should be able to get everything except ABC and CBS over-the-air. But ABC and CBS transmit from a hill a little to the south and west of all the other towers, on Mount Arden, and from that location, Seven Hills is too close to the base of the hills and in the shadow. So you probably will not be able to get ABC and CBS.

An amplifier is completely unnecessary in the valley. I actually had to take mine out because the signal was overloading my receiver and preventing reception. You either bought the wrong type of antenna or live in the shadow of the signal, too close to the base of the hills.

Here's a stipid question I'm sure. Wouldn't DirecTV or Dish TV satellites do the trick?
