I read a few other threads that stated to stay away from Lantana, yet did not offer reasons why. Are there specific reasons why this is a bad apartment complex? This apartment just came up in my APT search and wanted to clarify before I moved on.

Thanks in advance!

Kristy

Ive only driven by them but they seem to be very non descript apartments, NON secured and fairly old right next to the High School

Too many apts on Charleston Blvd and Lantana is one of them. Have a look around the complex, the amenities and the price then compare it with others in the area.

From what I gathered on my apt. search last week, Lantana has quite a lot of police activity, as do the Torrey Lane apts.

In that area, if you don't have pets, I liked the look of the Vista Del Rey (also next to the high-school, but it's gated - but even with the 6' high walls, I saw a lot of kids after school sitting on top of the walls, so I'd try for an apt. on the interior of the prop, away from the school...). I also looked at Desert Shadows, which were really nice, but a bit expensive ($900+) for my budget. Another that I really liked in that area, but they didn't have any vacancy at the time were the Courtyard apts. Maybe see if they have anything opening up soon if you don't have to move immediately.

I ended up at Eleven11 because they allow pets (I have a cat), and they were well within my budget($750/mo 2bd/2bth, ~1K sf, opting for the "non-upgraded" model). However they are a bit further West down Charleston - def. not within walking distance to CSN, but a fairly short commute (I'm guessing only a couple miles). Plus standing on the balcony for awhile, it seemed surprisingly nice and quiet. I'm sure they're not the best nor the worst, but they seemed to fit. Only time will tell.

We are planning to move June-ish so all the vacancies an apartment may have now will not be available at that time. I find it hard for the apartment manager to be able to tell if they will have any available units until they have the keys in their hand or at least a 30 day notice. I am getting a lot of apartments telling me to call back come May. So we shall see!

In my apartment search I am finding a lot of the apts available (within my budget) are run down and not worth my time. I think I want to expand into looking into a house. If I get a house it would be better anyways! I am just trying to save some money since the deposits for a house are much more than the deposit for an apt. Like they say though "You get what you pay for!"

Oh well we shall see! Thanks for all the feedback everyone, I greatly appreciate it. It helps to have people that know the area since I am so far away.
