Despite what others are saying, We are putting money into our home because its OUR home we dont look at it as an investment like most do. We only live once and want to enjoy what we can....................Outdoor kitchen, oasis landscaping, upgarded cabinets here we come.

Plus if Im gonna be deploying for 6 months every year I want to at least be able to treat myself and the family to some nice home amenities.

You may be a nice person, but you certainly make a lot of assumptions in your responses and I'm not just talking about this particular thread.

1.) there are a lot of comission only jobs that are not only real, but very lucrative. If your theory holds I guess most real estate agents are working for scam companies. Perhaps they are scammers themselves.

2.) just because YOU cant make a living doing sales doesn't mean the next guy cant.

3.) You dont assume all the risk in a pay for performace situation. Most companies offer training, which cost money, are liable for your representations, or perhaps misrepresentations, etc. In any sales room a seat = $$. There's lost opportunity from having a deadbeat fill a seat which should be making X per hour.

In sales it's well know (by those who can sell) that you're almost always going to make more in the sink or swim comission only position vs salary. Again, this assumes you can sell. In a lot of industries it's pretty standard practice.

Exclusive market in home improvement sales? What is so unique about windows and solar installations? Are you a company that specializes in energy efficiency retrofitting? It sure sounds like it.

Even without knowing your reply, I think you're under estimating the competition. Some companies like Yes! have recently launched rather aggressive print and television ad campaigns and then of course you have droves of unlicensed as well as licensed folks from the construction industry who are doing whatever they can to stay afloat.

That said I see a healthy dose of repair work going on with foreclosures. I know several people who are making energy improvements to their home. Even I am about to embark on a rather substantial remodelling and home systems upgrade soon.

I'm the kind of person that will pay more for quality work and materials...but I interview at least 5 companies carefully before work commences.
