So here's the deal... my family is flying in from NY this weekend, and we got tickets to the Angels/Yankees game on Monday (Memorial Day) in Anaheim. We have already booked a hotel nearby the stadium, but I'm well aware of the traffic nightmare that is driving from LV->LA after a holiday weekend (ala Memorial Day weekend).

Looking for advice or estimates on how long the drive will take on Monday morning. The game is Monday night at 6 pm but we'd like to be there with plenty of time to check in to the hotel and explore the stadium, as its the first time for all of us at Angels Stadium. Tentative plan is to leave here by 9 am at the latest.

Any advice or thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Cory

Crack of dawn. Traffic starts to build before mid morning. I would try to be past Baker by 9AM. Then it will be a pleasant run and you should be in LA by 1PM.

I used to work at the outlet mall at Primm and I can tell you for sure it will be a zoo heading from Vegas to LA on Monday. Traffic will be bad, bad, bad. If I had to make this trip, I would leave Vegas no later than 7am. That will put you well ahead of most of the traffic.

People don't usually like to party all night and leave at the crack of dawn. The later you leave, the worse it will be.

It would sometimes take me 3 HOURS to get to the outlet mall on Holiday Sunday/Monday. And the mall is on the NV/CA border. Only about 40 some miles from Vegas.

Just leave as early as possible because you will hit backups at 2 locations:

1. Primm at Stateline where it goes from 3 lanes to 2.
2. The agricultural checkpoint in Yermo.

Hopefully the weather will be good as I have seen fog at the Cajon Pass at various times so once you get through there it should be smooth sailing to Anaheim. It's a great stadium and they do a great job with traffic control on and off of I-5.

I concur..Also you will be hitting the traffic from people coming back on the 10 and 91 freeways so it will be lots of traffic the closer you get the Anaheim

It's much better to leave on Sunday and pay the money for a hotel. If you cant do that leave as early as possible. Problem is everyone from SoCal already knows to leave early as well.

True - But they never get too it. They always decide they need breakfast before leaving.

The trick is to have an early breakfast in Baker...

Plan on a nice 6 hr drive at least. Holidays like this are the worse for driving anywhere.

Avoid this by leaving around 6am.

Fly... or plan better in advance next year.... that's really the only thing you can do.

Also, factor in the perfunctory drunken brawl which invariable takes place in the parking lot following the game. A NYY #1 foam finger is not advisable.
