It happens sometimes, especially when there has been no rain and the humidity gets into the single numbers. It is not unusual.

While we, meaning those of us who live in the valley proper, have nothing to worry about, some people who live on the outskirts of the valley in the desert with lots of cactus and plants, natural desert, should be on alert.

These warnings are issued especially for the folks who live up on Mt. Charleston and for our natural conservation areas like Red Rock Canyon.

I have several friends who live up on Mt. Charleston and there have been several instances over the years where they haven't been allowed to get back home or leave home via Kyle Canyon Road (or any other route for that matter) because of the fires up on the mountain. Thats what the fire code zones are for the most part.

I think the wind is the added factor that triggers these, not just high temps and low humidity. They are related to fire potential.

We are so used to the Red Flag Warnings that it's just another windy day to us. We are close to the Sheep Range mountains so the worst that it does out here is make the mountain disappear with all the blowing dust.

Thanks for red flat warning. I just had a palm tree planted in my front yard last night. Now all the fronds are broken.

I was going to see Absintine last night with friends, but they cancelled the show because of the winds.
But it made for a FABULOUS sunset
