Has anyone used the temp services here in Las Vegas? Just wondering if trying that avenue is one worth trying.

I have been checking the various sites for a couple months now, even answered a couple, (they hired within) but I knew that I couldn't get real serious until all my ducks were in a row. So, now, since they are, I will be joining the ranks of all the other job hunters. Exciting.

If anyone knows of someone hiring and you feel like sharing, send me a DM!

I am not real picky but I rather office work, PT or FT and I am not looking for benefits.

Craigslist is such an iffy place to search, half are scams. If the company doesn't put their name on the ad, I hesitate to respond.

I think it was much easier when you could just answer an ad in the paper and then get an interview. There is no face time anymore. They don't like your resume...bye bye it goes. That is a definite negative for me because I am better than my resume reads. But, it is what it is...we'll see, there is always dog walking!

Food for thought: if I'm hiring for engineering, accounting, or any other professional position I put all my contact information on CL. For other admin, sales, telemarketing, etc. type jobs I don't.

Craigslist is full of non qualified weirdos who blow up your phone all day. It's easier to just have people email a resume and hit delete than field calls all day.

You're right though that a lot of the CL jobs are scams. Hopefully it got better since they started charging for certain categories. I'd suggest just setting up a new hotmail/yahoo/ gmail type account and use a google voice number if you don't want your personal data out there.

I did consider that, I realize people do blow up the phones even when it specifies not to call. It is hard to distinguish the scams from those that are not because those scammers are good. Thing is, if an ad requests your resume, how are you supposed to know if it is a scam ad when there is no company name to research? Resumes do have some personal info on them.

Register with all of these above. Upload your resume, then let the employers come to you. No need for CL anymore.

My cousin-in-law just got a job off of Google. Yes, he just Googled "jobs working with youth in Las Vegas". Got a gig at the YMCA.

Thanks, Von! I am registered on a couple of those, but I will look into the others as well. Sometimes, if I pass a place while driving, I will jot it down and then look it up online and see if they have any openings. I applied to a couple places today.

When I was in the employment business we saw a lot of people get jobs through temp services. Temp to perm is pretty common, and I think it's a good way to get a job if you have skills they're looking for.

Kimba, you have my sympathies. I am also starting to look for work for the first time in fifteen years or so. Previously, I had always lined up my next gig before leaving the current one, and always by offers from people I already knew. I now find myself unemployed for the first time since I was sixteen years old. My timing when quitting was imperfect, to say the least

I wish you much luck in finding the right job. Finding a company that you can love and nurture is like finding a soulmate. It happens, but damn if there isn't a lot of work in the process.

You seem intelligent and kind (having read many of your posts), and I have no doubt there is a fit out there for you.

Thanks, NLVgal! Good luck to you, also. My *perfect* job would be in an office, going to the same place everyday. Answering phones, dealing with paperwork/computer entry, basically what ever needs to be done to keep an office running smoothly. Seems these days, you need a Master's Degree to get those! I will keep on searching, though!

I don't know that I want to drive to the Strip every day and work late nights and such. Just a small, quiet job. (Do those exist anymore? )
