It gets all over everything, too. Vacuum your house and a day later there's a very fine layer of dust all over everything. You may as well try to hold back the tide with a broom. Living in Las Vegas means a lot of dusting. (This is why I cannot understand for the life of me why ANYONE would want to have carpet in their Las Vegas house. That has to be the absolute dumbest idea on the planet -- right up there with "Let's dig a basement for our apartment in Venice" or "Let's install central AC for our house in Anchorage.)

Thank you. I had been contemplating a retirement home in Summerlin. I am currently living in Coastal North Carolina where I experience dust, pollen and mold allergies.

Now I understand why so many homes have tile floors. It sounds like the dust in Nevada would worse, and the pollen might be slightly less than in NC. Does anyone experience mold allergies in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas is very dusty. Seriously, you could dust twice a day and be able to spot the areas you miss! I have a good vacuum with a filter so I use that to dust and hopefully actually get rid of some of it instead of just moving it around. Tile floors make sense here because of all the dust!

I've never had a problem with dust/carpet in my house. I live in The Lakes/Section 7.
The air quality is fine to me, seems the same as everywhere else I've lived (CA, UT, AZ).
I've had pollen and dander allergies all my life, but not in Vegas.
As for mold allergies, I don't know how one would go about creating mold in this climate.

If you get mold it's because you had a major leak in your house and didn't do water abatement properly.

Unless you've pulled up your carpet and seen what's under the carpet AND the pad, you wouldn't know how disgusting your floor is.

Does anyone use a Air Purifier? Or Hepa? If so, how much do they help? Thank you!

I moved here nine months ago because of severe allergy and asthma in Oregon. I consulted with a top allergist/pulmonologist and he said there are no dust mites here. It is too hot. Since they are my worst allergen that was good news. It did take a few months for my body to settle in, but there has been a huge reduction in asthma related issues. I still have it, but formerly was in distress for over three years. My allergies are also reduced.

The heat has so far gone as high as 115degrees. Those nights only fall back to 90 degrees. But usually we are around 105 degrees daytime/85 overnight. These are summer numbers. People do things early in the day and after sunset to manage. I have never been a fan of heat, but I am a fan of breathing and it has had a huge positive effect on my life.

I was not aware of Valley Fever until recently, but the numbers for Vegas seem small for the large population. Much less than flu season.
I love it here.

1) how often is there visible dust or smog in the air, on average, how many days per month have a lower air quality?
2. Do you get dust storms there, how often if so?
3. Are there desert allergy issues that effect many people there that I am not aware of ?
4. Does the dry air dry out peoples lungs there/effect breathing?
5. Do many people wind up moving away because they can't adjust to the pollution or climate change?
Thanks in advance, I have a good job opportunity. I have a family with small children, not into the strip other than would enjoy an occasional show. Cost of living seems low and we are excited to go if I can find out if I can handle the climate for my allergies and pollution sensitivities.
Whoa. We have dust mites, high pollen counts, and a fungus that leads to valley fever. ( google it )

I have those spots on my lungs. Please don’t move here for lung health reasons.

I’m a long timer, and I have tough lungs, so please consider my information first.
