Does anyone know a good safe street? I am working there, but don't want to pay $8/day.

If you have a Boyd Sapphire card you can park free at Main Street Station. Otherwise it's $3.

I would talk to the valets at the different casinos. See if there's an arrangement you can work out for parking 5 days a week. I don't think it would be a problem as long as you tip a few bucks. Then your car is secure (for the most part). I would do that over parking on a side-street downtown.

Where do the other employees where you'll be working park?

Try contacting Clark County Gov to see if you can get a monthly parking pass for their parking garage located on Bridget ST. Many casino employees use this I believe it is $70.00 a month which averages out to about $2.30 a day.

Parking is probably my biggest gripe with downtown and why I prefer the strip. I never have trouble parking at one of the casinos on the strip, but downtown is a different story. Once had to pay $15 for parking there on the weekend.

I park in the exact same spot whether downtown or on the Strip. It's called the valet, and, fortunately, just about every casino has one. And it's free (although one might want to tip, but that is discretionary)

I am not sure why there could possibly be a "gripe" with downtown when there are people literally STANDING and WAITING for you to pull in so they can park your car for you.
