WTF is wrong with them? You go there to do your business with some expectation of privacy but they're there what it seems to be 24/7. This is especially bad in top tier hotels. These guys seem to live there. And they're often just chilling there, giving you weird looks, watching you urinate, etc. Perfect job for a pervert.

Anyone else disturbed by this?

There's a difference:

You have the bathroom attendants who expect a tip in return for offering people a paper towel. (I find this particularly creepy.) And then you have the casino janitors, who are goofing off in the bathroom because there are no casino security cameras. They're playing around on their phone, and will later claim that someone took a dump on the floor and they had to clean it up. No cameras, so no way to check up on them.

I find these fools to be such an invasion of privacy, I refuse to tip them ANYTHING. Hopefully if enough of us do the same, they'll realize they're not wanted and their creepy economy will collapse.

Like I can't get a paper towel myself?

Well the ones I'm talking about they don't even offer you anything (btw the ones offering paper towels are ridiculous, why would I want some dude's germs on my paper towel when I can just grab one myself??). They're there supposedly cleaning. But how can you clean non-stop 24/7? Most of the time they're not actually cleaning just creeping about.

They're not creeping about. They're goofing off.

The casino where I work has a service elevator to the main casino floor that didn't have a camera nearby. Two porters (cleaning ladies) took advantage of this and stood in front of the elevator as if they were waiting for the doors to open -- for HOURS at a time. Just standing around, gabbing. Playing on their phones. Basically doing nothing.

Eventually, the casino installed a camera. (I suppose that's cheaper than getting the managers to check up on all their workers.)

The bathrooms are basically the "water coolers" of the resort -- a place for the workers to stand around and talk (and pretend to be busy), where managers cannot bother them.

I have to say that give the traffic some of the bathrooms in the casinos get, they need someone assigned in there full time, just to keep them acceptably clean.

And, BTW, most of the casinos do a very good job of this. Here in NYC, most of the public bathrooms are something of a nightmare.

I knew this perspective would show up.

He would be just as productive to society (and less annoying to the rest of us) if the casino paid him to dig a hole and fill it back up. We can't be inventing useless "services", then think we're helping people eke out a living. This is just a more personal form of panhandling. It makes no sense at all. It's just as ridiculous and invasive as those poolside creeps who walk around looking for tips for the privelege of rubbing tanning oil all over you. Blech.

I don't think that cleaning a bathroom is a useless service at all. Consider the alternative..

Do not be mistaken. The person who hands you a paper towel and has a few pieces of gum and cologne cluttering up the counter is NOT the one who scrubs the toilet. These clowns are dressed up in a nice uniform (even a suit!) that never gets near a dirty toilet. I've seen toilets getting cleaned by the *real* janitorial staff while these social vampires are begging for tips at the sinks.
