You should do a bit of research, it has been LVCVA who has been funding the New Years eve fireworks show for years since its inception.
Actually it is produced by LVCVA and LVE and the various sponsoring resorts. And Grucci is one of the two big fireworks operations in the US and I believe holds the world record for the largest ever fireworks display. In other words they are the best around. And it has virtually nothing to do with the City of Las Vegas or the Goodmans other than City membership in the LVCVA Board.

FYI

Oscar Goodman was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Just putting it out there for those not familiar with the connection of the local officials in town.

You should visit Asia and see the fireworks competition held in some of the countries there. It will put Fireworks by Grucci to shame. Mind you these fireworks competition include some of the best pyrotechnicians in Asia, North America, Australia and Europe.

That gave him one vote on a Board of 14. Carolyn is now in that seat. There are two County Commissioners, 5 Casino Execs, i CofC, 3 Mayors, 3 City Councilman (Mesquite, Boulder City and Las Vegas)

I would think that gave Oscar or Carolyn the right to be heard and not much else.

Amazing. The strip of course is not in the City of Las Vegas and it is the strip casinos who pay for the fireworks displays. The have no connection with either Carolyn Goodman or Oscar or the City of Las Vegas. Carolyn's claim to fame is the formation of the Meadows School where she spent many years in charge.

Amazing how little is known about how Las Vegas actually works."

Still has a say, regardless especially after what you mentioned on your post above, in case you've forgotten and by the way in Clark County, "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". Juice works really well here, THAT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT!

Seriously what difference does the fireworks show on New Year's Eve make? The city already draws huge crowds at super high pricing anyways, only the clueless with no business sense would not realize how little the quality of the show matters. Yes there are far better fireworks shows in many places, no one can question that. But guess what? No one has ever said I'll pass on the trip to Las Vegas for NYE because the fireworks aren't the best in the world! Besides to the casino managers the fireworks shows are just a necessary nuisance. They'd rather have them last about 15 seconds and get everyone moving along then.

Is there back scratching in the process going on? Of course there is. The powerful in town run their businesses knowing how much it matters and how they have to play the game to get what they want.
