I'm hoping you all can give me some guidance. I haven't been to Las Vegas since 2007 and that was just for a week. So, here's another "please point me in the right direction thread".

Where I'm at now: Currently residing near Jackson, MS. I own a house and pay roughly $1150 per month. I make roughly $100k. I'd be moving to Las Vegas by myself.

Why I'd leave Mississippi: I'm a transplant to Mississippi, from Virginia. I was sent here for work. I've made some really good friends here. But, it's way too small and I can't see myself living here forever. Seemingly, the people that are from here, love it here. While those who are transplanted here, count the days to get out. My major gripe is that there's literally nothing to do. Aside from the festivals that come through for saint pattys day and such. The nightlife is non-existent with just a few bars worth going to.

Why I'm considering Las Vegas: well, it's larger than Jackson. I ultimately see myself winding up in NC. But, I'm in my mid-twenties, and obvious like the scene of Las Vegas. However, I kind of compare it to New Orleans, where it's awesome to visit, but I don't know if I should/could live there. Is it really touristy? I'm sure there a more local hangouts to meet people that are off the strip. But, it's just finding them.

My plan would be to rent my house out here in MS and live in an apartment for a year or so. I lucked out moving to MS by just picking a random apartment off of google and signing up. The complex ended up being great and I met a lot of awesome people.

But, my question is, where should I look to find an apartment and ultimately a house? I'm looking for a place where I can meet people my age be it at the apartment, sports leagues, the gym, local hangouts/pubs, etc. Meeting people through co-workers is highly unlikely.

I'd probably be looking to spend around $1100 on rent (apartment) and more for a house/condo.

A little about me: I play pretty much any sport. Would love to find an indoor/outdoor soccer league and a flag football league. I probably of to the bar two or three times a month. Probably more frequently when I move. I enjoy pretty much any outdoor activity like hiking, camping, sports, grilling, backyard games, drinking beer, hanging out, etc. I would be working within a few blocks of the airport it looks like.

Thank you for any help!

89123 would be the zip of choice. Manhattan or there abouts.

Much quail of the suitable age and an active social scene.

There are others but for a newby that will do.

Bars where you can get to know people that aren't total douches don't really exist here.
I definitely miss the dives and taverns of Wisconsin... And I'm 28, not an old dude. The clubs are insanely pretentious and touristy.
The city and surrounding area has tons of hiking options that are available year round. Mt. Charleston's 30 degree drop in temperature is a great way to still get out when the summer heat is in full swing.

Thanks for the info guys. I checked out the homes in 89123 and that's pretty much what I'm looking for. Still not to sure about what's in the area as far as entertainment, shopping, etc.

I know what you mean Vegas_Cabbie. I've met quite a few people here in bars who happened to have similar interests and hang out. But, it's such a slow paced town. It gets old seeing the same people over and over at different bars. I'm sure there has to be some local hangouts somewhere in vegas.

Summerlin hands down the best. Hit red rock quick. Streets are beautifully landscaped. Tons of shopping amenities.

Bike/walk trials everywhere.

Don't I recall mention of an online group that is specifically designed to find places and people that have similar interests? I apologize for not remembering the name, but I'm pretty sure it was the LV thread where I saw it.

Found one.

I would also suggest Summerlin. It has all the outdoor things, close to Red Rock for more outdoor fun. Plus the locals casinos to meet other locals and regulars. You are just a short drive from everything in that area.

No offense, but meet up sucks. Unless you're looking for freaks and weirdos in which case it's awesome. But granted, meet up appears to be a lot bigger in Vegas and understandably so. There are like 3 active groups full of freaks where I'm out now.

ddrhazy: I don't absolutely have to go to vegas. Just exploring my options and that appears to be the best one on the table from my perspective. I'm kind of burnt out and tired of where I am.

I'll look in to Summerlin and Seven Hills. Thanks for the suggestions.
