On a walk yesterday my wife and I spotted a "pool water" tanker truck (5,000 gallons) refilling from a public street fire hydrant. Do you think these companies have some sort of an agreement with the city for the cost of the water, maybe the home owner contracts directly with the city and pays for the water. I assume someone is paying for it, or maybe not.

First time I've seen this.

Should have taken a couple of pictures. If they're stealing the water the water dept. would probably like to know.

Did hydrant have a meter on it? If not they were definitely stealing water.

In some areas they offer rewards leading to conviction for turning them in.

Video it next time and call LVVWD or Metro.

Call 311 and report it next time. I saw a guy brazenly filling a huge tank on a trailer utilizing a hydrant on the shoulder of Cheyenne and Teneya. PD showed up pretty quick when I called and caught him in the act.

I took a picture, didn't get close enough to see if there was a meter on it. So you think I should call LVVWD? He left his hoses connected to the hydrant so he was obviously getting more than one load of water.

Go back first and look to see if hydrant has a meter on it which will be attached directly to hydrant outlet before the hose.

Did the truck say Pool Water on it? That's not much water for a pool.

I worked for a lawn service/pest control service that had huge water tanks on their trucks. The fill hose goes through a small meter on the truck before going into the tank. I would fill at any hydrant I needed to. City read the meters on the trucks once a month like everybody else. Why you guys would go out of your way over things like this is beyond me.

What he says is true, LVVWD has contracts with certain companies. Many years ago the meter was located on the hydrant only.

Best to casually walk by and see if there is a meter where hose attaches to truck. If not get some pics and notify proper authorities and let them deal with it. There still may be a reward involved if they do convict thieves but you'll have to research/confirm this yourself.

On another note, there is a bill right now up to allow FRACKING in Utah near the Virgin River (Red Hills). Guess what nearby watershed all of the tons of water it takes to frack and all of the toxic ingredients that they don't have to tell you ingredients of the fracking material contents from China has in it ends up in?

Lake Mead, Lake Mohave etc.. is where it ends up and does LVVWD test for something they don't even know what is in it? Likely not.

Contact your representatives and sign petitions if you care about your water... #waterislife
