Heat probably is a bottom line for alot of people from the North. I know having lived in Houston 22 years that many people hate it there and want to leave or don't want to get stuck there in the first place. I understand as I went from Chicago there, and it took me about 3 years to even get started getting used to the godawful humidity and high pollen there. Sissies...can't tough it out.

Or, they wanted to have the same circumstances as those who they might know who already live here and are quite happy; when in fact, they can't have the same circumstances, like not being qualified for good paying jobs, can't afford to buy a home here, etc.

Poor planning, not realistic expectations (Las Vegas is Nirvana and all your problems will be gone once you move here), no money, no research on the area, no good paying job, no family here (and you miss them so much!) and just plain stupidity (in some cases) are what make people move here and then leave.

EVERYBODY loves Las Vegas and everyone wants to know what goes on here. Its the ultimate "feel good" place, but a city and valley with all the problems of any typical big city/population area. Sometimes..it's simply just "too big a place" for some folks to handle.

Most of the "in and out movers" don't realize these things ..

Ya mom i was one of those in and out movers , i did have realistic expectations i was making about 16.50 hr my goal was to make at least 15.00 per hour the problem was the city was expensive to live in and the people where less then friendly i was not happy period. Las Vegas should do a better job of trying to retain good people who move here and start paying realistic wages for blue and white collar workers so they can afford to buy a house and have a good quality of life otherwise Vegas will continue to be less then a desirable city. mom with all due respect most people who move here dont expect to be movie stars our make millions in casinos they move here because their is an abundance of jobs with the hopes of a better life hoping they can do better here then where they came from .

So, what does that say about the people moving to LV, if they aspire to obtain mediocrity? You have hit the nail on the head.

I'm really sorry you had a bad experience here Xfiles, and I feel bad you couldn't meet some friendly people, for they are here.

Unfortunately, so many people believe Las Vegas is Nirvana, they can't see the forest for the trees so to speak. Look at all these people who bought overpriced houses here in LV in the last few years and are now in foreclosure. Buying in Las Vegas has ruined their finances and run up prices on houses so high, that hard working folks like yourself can't afford to buy here anymore. That really bugs me, I've heard that from a few folks, they work hard, put in extra hours at their jobs and still can't afford to buy. Thank the speculators who got caught up in the exotic loan program for jacking up the prices of our normally affordable homes here in town.

I can see where you're coming from, I just wish everyone would realize that Las Vegas, while not the most expensive place to live, is certainly more costly to live in than other smaller cities and towns. It depends on what you compare Las Vegas to. Me personally, I still think it's a bargain living here, but I'm comparing it to high density populations of the East Coast and those of So. Cali.

And as you mentioned in your post, I don't think most people move here thinking they're going to be millionaires or movie stars. But they DO believe they can afford to live here, having done no research on potential wages they might earn, cost of homes and cost of living.

I do hope that you are happy where you are living now and wish you the best of luck for the future.

I've been busy in my official capacity as goodwill ambassador to THECesspool. You seem like such a nice person, I almost feel guilty posting in a negative way in your presence.
