It depends on whether there is snow actually falling on the roads. They plow the roads, but if it is snowing at the time you go up there, they may require 4x4 with snow tires or chains. That's to keep the small cars with all-wheel drive but with street tires from going up the hill.

I took that pic a couple years ago in blizzard like conditions. I had a 2wd and no chains. No one said a word to me.

I'll have to try this place out. Going to play in the snow with the kids is always nerve-wracking to me because you have to basically pull off to the side of the road and just find a place to play. It's shocking to see how many ambulances have to come up the mountain on any given day. Some of the "sledding" accidents I've seen are pretty horrible!

Chains or snow tires (or even 4wd) may be required by law, depending on conditions. If you don't know how to drive in snow, please stay off the mountain for the next few days.

Do you just want to see snow, or do you want to go play in the snow? Do you have a sled or inner tube? Or can you ski?

To get to the ski area there are two ways to go. Head up U.S. 95 a few miles until you come to the Kyle Canyon turnoff, which is S.R. 157. Take Kyle Canyon to just beyond the Mt. Charleston Hotel (not the lodge). There is the intersection of S.R. 158 (don't worry, it's the only one you'll find for a highway - but on past that intersection you will hit one or two roads leading to homes). Anyway, take it to the next intersection (about ten miles I think), and turn left on S.R. 156. Keep going and you come to the ski area. But before you get to the ski area you will see a meadow on the right, and the Foxtail sledding area on the left. Take your pick.

Or, on U.S.95 continue on to the Lee Canyon turnoff which is S.R. 156, turn left and head up the hill to the ski area and the above snow play areas.

If all you want to do is see snow, and don't want a long drive, I'd suggest you just continue on up the Kyle Canyon Rd, S.R. 157, to the lodge, or near the lodge, and have fun. The roads will possibly be better there anyway.
