Guys is Las Vegas really hit by recent downturn??

A lot of bad news are coming from Macau and i wonder if LV is similar as well

Of course China is having a "soft landing" but it seems entertainment spendings are probably going down

The Vegas casino business is well off the bottom from the 2008 crash. Macau is a different animal. If Macau is having an impact on Vegas, it's at the corporate level of the casino companies that have big Macau investments.

IMO, we still have the same problems we had before. A lot of crappy part time no pay jobs. We need full time positions that pay a living wage with benefits. Too many people work too hard trying to make a living cobbling together part time positions. And it's very difficult long term to have no paid time off and no medical.

But that's what we have and we deal with it. It's not that hard to survive here but it's difficult to do well!

As far as the gambling industry goes I still say they would do much better if they rolled back the odds to 2000 levels. But they aren't going to listen to me! The casinos are still full of people but they generally gamble less.

That and the cost of food are two of the reasons we cut back on our visits before we moved here. We've not gambled in the 15 months since we moved.

I've never understood the point of these economy questions...

In essence, you're asking how the majority of people are doing. Why would you be concerned with that?

The majority of people have (and always will) live a life of mundane mediocrity. The majority of people will always live paycheck-to-paycheck.

Don't be like them. Make your own economy.

What exactly are you looking for? There are plenty of nearly 100% or better payout video poker machines around. Lots of 3/2 BJ games remain. Locals casinos overflow mailboxes as much as ever. To say I won't gamble because of the choices made by tourist focused casinos on the Strip sounds like a lousy excuse to me.

People would rather buy new construction than buy an existing house, likely abandoned for some time.

And there are still a lot of delinquencies being held off the market.

The casino resorts in Vegas as a whole (meaning all their businesses including gaming, resort, convention, entertainiment, etc.) seem to be doing very well on an operating basis. If the companies have a problem, it's floating the huge debt levels they incured before the 2008 collapse, and dealing with the fallout of the Chinese government squashing Macau.
