License Plate Reader Technology | Automatic License Plate Reader

Maybe you and many people here just need to get out of Vegas more. They use these in a transit parking lot in Denver I used to use. The plate reader could tell the transit employee driving the lot as he went by if the car belongs to someone from a part of the county which refused to pay transit tax and therefore did not get free parking in the lot. I saw the truck driving by once, it was going about 15 and after passing about 20 cars the truck suddenly stops, backs up two spots and proceeds to leave a notice on the car.

Someone pulling up to an exit gate can be verified almost instantly.

I found this link as I was researching MGM proposed parking fees. Lots of great comments on it!

But that's in a public facility. I highly doubt that a public license plate database could be used by a private company.

Yep, plenty of issues with the whole license plate thing.
I've had my entire plate stolen right off my car here in Vegas. If you think that kind of a system would run perfectly smooth... in a corridor where many people are driving in the US for the very first time and might not even speak English, you are high.

I think Show ID... if Nevada, you get in free works just fine.

I'm assuming, as is the case with a lot of parking facilities now, payment would be automated. So they'd have to automate the ID checking also (which is probably feasible, but I haven't seen it before.) The last thing the casinos would tolerate is to have to pay salaries just to allow locals to not pay for parking.

The MGM usually wins(?) the RJs worst parking lot in the Best of Las Vegas contest. I found something on the FIVE worst and it came in at #3. This was just the first article I found. Of course, I get the feeling it's written by somebody from LA where the only way to get out of your car is to buy gas ...if you can find a gas station. Otherwise you're like the guy on the MTA. Can't get off/out because there's no parking anywhere. The Top 5 Worst Las Vegas Casino Parking Garages

Maybe it will be like it is (was?) downtown. Pull into the lot, get a ticket and have it validated somewhere in the casino by showing a local ID.

Did you report your lost plate? Sorry but I don't think people are going to steal plates to save a few bucks on parking, but fine argue all you want about it. Point is there are ways to implement changes if so desired. And low tech ways too, could be as simple as stating no cars allowed in the parking lot after 2am unless you have a parking pass. Wouldn't even require a gate system.
