But wouldn't I have to pay less for rent if I had multiple roommates?

You're right, I calculated based on how'd you be taxed on bonus income. More like $1500-$1600 per month net.

I've used ADP's paycheck calculator multiple times and the calculation is like 99.9999% accurate. If I plug the numbers in for a salary of $24,250/year and 1 federal allowance then the net comes up to be $1681.34/month. You were pretty spot on. This, of course, does not include deductions such as health insurance, 401K and any others.

I'd recommend anyone to use it, if you're wondering what your net paycheck would be.

**not sure if I'm allowed to post the link here but a simple google search will do the trick**

So basically as long as I have a couple of roommates (at least two) I would be able to live comfortably making 25,000 per year? Of course I would eventually move into my own place once I start making more money.

It depends what you like to do. If you don't spend much then yes, I could see someone surviving off this monthly. I've seen others survive with less money. It's all depends if you're good with your money.

Well I'm not the type of person who likes to waste money. Yes I do like to have fun sometimes but I don't party or go out every weekend and I'm not into gambling either.

Not to be terribly negative, but I suspect you are underestimating it by quite a bit. $1 Million 30 years from now is worth about $410,000 today (3% inflation per year).

Don't forget, you'll also save money on clothing compared to California.

Contrast that with Palo Alto:
