Hello everyone,
Its time for my home insurance renewal. Just received policy for my house in SW area. Policy came $460 for 1840 sq ft single story house, 5 years old.
Does anyone see this is bit high?? Is there insurance companies I could check with for better rate? Appreciate any feedback.

I live in the NW area. My homeowners Insurance runs $396.00($1k deductible) per year for a 1999 sf townhouse. I have used Travelers Ins for the past 6 years. It seems they keep raising the rates every year.

There are many variables in the calculation of your premium--hard to do a comparison based on square footage and general location alone.

There are no cons to getting multiple quotes from highly-rated insurance companies. A five year old home should get favorable rates.

I carry $1 million in liability, inflation-protected full-replacement (not the same as rebuild cost), and displacement coverage up to a year (living expenses if you are displaced).

I have a $1000 deductible. I pay $422/yr. I have multiple policies with the provider and no claim history. The problem is my numbers do not compare to any of your factors, so the only way you will get an idea is to shop.

Try AAA. They are very competitive. Even better if you add your auto into it

Unless you have a mulit-million dollar house, stay away from Firemans Fund or Chubb. Actually if your home is in that price range, you might not have a choice other than these two.

Most of the rest now will cover home up to a couple million.

I'm getting a quote from AAA in the fall when my home owners is due. Heard they are a good deal with Autos.

I had a bad experience with Century National Insurance. I had been a policy holder for nearly 20 years, made one claim for a repair due to a leaking toilet that cost about $600 and should have been covered, and they went out of their way to find a technicality to deny the claim. I'm with The Hartford now. My premiums are a bit higher, but it is a much more reputable company and they have a solid reputation.

Were those the only two that would give you a quote?

Try Amica. We have auto, hoe, and an umbrella liability policy with them.
