As I wander from casino to casino, connected by shopping malls, I just can't help but wonder about some of these stores. Associates dressed in suits, selling expensive ware, and no one in the store shopping. Yet H&M is packed.

Are some of these stores loss leaders for casinos, to generate ambience?

How much do associates that work there make?

I understand that due to Millennials not being as into gambling as previously generations, that casinos are transitionin to wider varieties of entertainment, but are there too many stores on the Strip now?

The majority of these shops are leased space so the hotel/casino is making money playing landlord in commercial retail and restaurant space.

I don't know about retail clothing, but in high ticket cars and boat sales, volume isn't needed. They rely on the huge margins of the higher priced items. So they may be doing better than some of those stores that are packed, but most of them are lookieloos.

If they are losing money they will start closing. If not more will come. I've been here for 52 years and the numbers haven't gotten any less so far.

BTW: The Fashion Show Mall makes the most money per sq. footage of any mall in the country.

Pretty much this. It is also the same reason that a casino would rather have empty high limit tables than full lower limit tables

I needed a sport coat and popped into the Zegna store at Crystals after a meal. Their sport coats run from $1800 to $2500. You don't need to sell too many of those to stay open. All they need is one whale who will buy $5000 suits the way I buy socks, and they're set for the week. My understanding is that whales are the ones that keep those stores open for business. They don't rely on people like me, who might buy one item, once a year, in order to keep their doors open.

I always assumed, if anything, these high end stores are looked at as a marketing expense by the brands that lease space as malls like Forum Shops as Caesars, etc. There is a TON of foot traffic that brings brand awareness to a multitude of people that may otherwise never go into one of these high end stores.

That is what I have assumed also. Saw it on our last Vegas trip and put in on my list of must buys once I got some extra cash.
