staying in stratosphere next week (so north / east LV) and seeking reputable, untouristy teeth whitening clinic. the only brand i am familiar with that dentists use is "Zoom" ... any recommendations? have never done this before

I use Laser Dental on Sunset. They're a dental office that offers Zoom.

Try Crest Whitestrips....they really work. Use "sensitive" toothpaste about 2 weeks before doing whitening...whether at a dentist or with whitestrips....it can make your teeth VERY sensitive!

The trays are so much better than zoom. I swear I had major sensitivity for months after zoom whitening. My sister who worked in dentistry warned me, but I did not listen. You will be required to eat a " white diet" for several days after zoom. Is that how you want to spend your time? No coffee, no wine, no smoking, no fruits or vegetables except mashed potatoes, etc., otherwise you can stain your teeth badly?
