Until your pool turns green. If you are draining it, then you may not run into a problem.

Maybe you don't need to know your CYA level, but you definitely should not be telling people to just throw chlorine tablets into a pool and not worry about anything, unless you work for a pool store. No two pools are the same.

I highly recommend people head over to troublefreepool and do some reading there. The advice on that forum is much more accurate.

Oh for...

I never said "throw tabs in and forget it"

I also said I've researched how to maintain my pool, have taught myself all about chemical level requirements, etc. Tablets are not the enemy. They are a cost effective and easy way to maintain your chlorine. The point (look up to find it) was that doing your own pool service does not have to be expensive or time consuming. It's chemistry, not rocket science.

Thanks for your input, hopefully the OP has benefited. Have a nice day!

I respectfully disagree, tablets are the enemy. They are not cost effective when you have to shock your pool, and or drain it when cya or calcium or both get too high.... Hopefully the OP benefited by heading over to troublefreepool where my sentiment is echoed.

When your CYA is too high, shocking your pool won't work. Your pool will turn into a green algae cesspol.

Tablets have their place when you are on vacation, or need to raise your CYA.

Have a nice day!

I agree about having your own pool, I have no interest in swimming laps ever, and I have no interest in sharing a pool with anyone else. Our real estate agent suggested this and I shut that down fast. I just told him look, if I have to get into a car even for 2 minutes and then change somewhere and then change again and come home, I would literally never swim. Ever. I barely used the communal pool in a condo where I just took an elevator down to it, I certainly wouldn’t use something where I have to drive to it lol that totally defeats the purpose and isn’t enjoyable. I want to go in my backyard and swim whenever I want.

As for chlorine and all, no, UV pool. Probably infinity pool and I’ve never been in a pool with anything at the bottom of it, that’s what the pool cleaner is for, they move around and clean the bottom of the pool. I thought that was just standard, everyone has that in a pool.

A pool in the backyard would definitely be great, but we opted out when buying a house last year. We didn't want the risk/worry of having a pool with 3 young kids. Our oldest knows how to swim and we will teach our younger two, though. Our yard is large enough that we can install a good sized pool and still have room for everything else, so maybe we will do that when the kids are older.

Have you seen a "UV" pool?

Can you do us a favor and educate yourself a little more before posting nonsense

It's always a lot cheaper to buy a house with a pool than to put one in later. Pools generally add $10k-$20k to the comps but generally cost $50k-$100k to install

I think a pool does add to value, if the cost is correct. We built the pool in 2009 at the crash for under 35. It sold the house. Today if you are spending 50+ for the pool, it’s an automatic loss. Buy a house with a pool!!
