The international drivers license isn't worth the paper it is printed on. The only possible use would be to translate the information on a foreign drivers license.

You can drive with your license as a visitor but once you are considered a resident through immigration then you will be required to get a drivers license from the state you are settling in. This may or may not require taking an actual driving test but will mean taking a written test.

Georgia is a state which requires the International License.

I had a Dutch license for over 15 years (motorcycle, car) and I couldn't transfer it. Frustrating, but getting to know some of the US-specific traffic laws was worth the aggravation of taking the DMV tests.

Are you sure you can transfer a license from Africa?
