I am a 77 year old single man. I live in Queens, NY. My son is buying a house in Allentown and I am considering moving to the area too. I would be looking for a 2 bedroom 2 bath rental apartment. I'd like an area that is near to shopping, doctors/hospitals and of course one that is safe. Any recommendation would be arppreciated.

If Allentown, stay away from center city and stick to the West End, say starting around 19th St. and heading west.

Bethlehem is also good. The north side has Main St., with a lot of good shops and restaurants, and the area in general seems pretty safe to me.

Even though it's not in the Lehigh Valley, you might consider Sellersville (Bucks County). It's right off 309 and about 30 minutes south of Allentown/Bethlehem. Grand View Hospital is nearby and also right off 309. It's nice, suburban, and pretty safe. I am not sure what the apartment rentals are like, though.

Emmaus is a nice borough right next to Allentown. Very low crime rate, and near LVHN.
