There be will plenty of options for you in the areas you listed. Buying food in grocery stores is a wise option and will save you a great deal of money.
Balham High Road- There is a large Sainsburys as well as a Waitrose ( an upscale grocery store) a short walk from the tube station. Both options have nice ready meal sections and when you can pick up sandwiches and other items on the go.
Docklands- I'm not exactly sure what is around that area, but there is bound to be a Tesco Express or Sainsbury's Local (smaller versions of the larger full service supermarket) or something around the area for grocery shopping.
Bethnal Green- Again I can't say exactly as I haven't been to that area in awhile, but there will definitely be some type of Tesco Express or Sainsbury Local perhaps even a Morrisons.
Other places for quality, inexpensive food would be places such as Pret a Manger and Eat, which sell freshly made sandwiches, soups, salads, drinks and coffees. This will also provide another fairly inexpensive alternative to restaurants.
