There's this guy in Bethpage (Dr. Bedford Jones) who is one of those old fashioned doctors. This guy has such a great bedside manner about him that if he said "I am now going to cut off your right leg, ok?" I would probably let him. Well, not really, but he has that trusting, calm doctor voice.

I wouldn't go to him for anything life threatening but for routine things he's great. He actually cares, it's easy to get an appointment the same or next day, and he doesn't rush you out. He listens to you and acts like you're his most important patient. It's worth the drive.

Howard M. Hertz, MD 350 W Main St Babylon NY 11702, right where 109 meets Main Street.

He's got a big ol' moustache and a gold stethoscope--"personality," you could say--and you'll spend an hour in his waiting room.

However, he's thorough with heart tests, which can be a plus if you're older than 35 or 40 and have a family history of heart trouble, and he's well-respected at Good Samaritan Hospital, which is where an ambulance would probably take you from your home if you live in Babylon, should the need arise. He also has evening and weekend hours, and he actually saw me on Christmas Eve when I had a sinus infection and called on a whim to see if they were open. Just said, "Don't suffer. Come on in."

He's won a few awards and been named a "Top Doc" in various publications and so on.

I'm actually thinking of going back to him, simply because my current doctor has limited office hours.
