I recently purchased a home. The sellers replaced their oil heating system with gas in the mid 80's. They did not get a COO (is that the right term?) for this conversion. I knew this when I purchased.
If I want to grieve my taxes, would the existence my gas burner be outed, and I'd get hit with penalties? Is it worth grieving, then? Has anyone else gone through this situation?
The assessor does not come to your house if you grieve taxes (besides they do not have carte blanche access to the inside of your home without a warrant signed by a judge).
You generally have nothing to lose if you grieve your taxes.
