I work in Melville and looking for a place preferably on the north/central part of nassau to move to, a place more urban in terms of walkability and a decent amount of 20-somethings.

I'm not looking in Suffolk even though Huntington might match my description, I'd prefer a place closer to the city if possible.

Any recommendations?

I'll even consider the south shore, but my preference is definitely for north/central with where I work.

'North Shore Nassau' and 'urban' don't belong in the same sentence.

Mineola might be a good choice for you but other than that the closest you will get to that is Hempstead, which is a very troubled community. Westbury is also somewhat urban but I can't say I would recommend it.... But you'll never know until you visit it yourself.

You're going to have to go to Queens most likely to get walkable urban feel.

Westbury, Mineola, Lynbrook, Rockville Center, Port Washington, Manhasset, Great Neck, Long Beach (might be a little too far)

What parts of Port Washington, Manhasset and Great Neck are "urban"?

the main shopping areas around the train station are very walkable... Manhasset has a movie theater, some cafes, a bar, restaurants, and small stores... Same with Great Neck and Port Washington...

Rockville center is probably the only one that comes close. Long beach is a bit far imho

I agree RVC is a good choice, close to lots of shopping, restaurants and train. Though Forest hills is still a good area. I lived there when i was little.

I second Mineola. It would be a pretty straight shot down Old Country Road to Melville, and there are buses and the LIRR as backup in case your car breaks down.
