Hi! My husband & I saw a house that we really like but the backyard faces a 2 lane road that is somewhat busy. You definitely hear the traffic when in the backyard. But the house is the best we've seen in our price range.

We don't see it as a major deterrent.. are we making a big mistake here?

Thanks for all input...

No you are not, our house is right on th corner of Sunrise and 111 and you get used to the noise If it's a good deal then go for it. We have 18 wheelrs, tow trucks motorcycles ect... pass our house everyday. I live here 8 years and the noise does not bother us.

Why not give the street name that is busy and town so we can offer an educated opinion. I can tell you from a friend whose backyard is off the main line RR tracks, arborvitae are wonderful buffers. While it does not totally kill the train noise it helps and they got a wonderful House for a song as compared to what they would have spent if not on the train line. It is all a trade off. Don't get me wrong it is still noisy but not as bad as it was when they first moved in.

If you have room for a privet hedge/hemlocks or the like and a fence you will get used to it. I grew up with the Southern St Pkwy as our backyard neighbor and it had little effect. Besides.....if you have boys it's a great place to hide and throw snowballs at cars.

That should be fine. As with any noise you get used to it unless you are the type who like peace and quiet.

I AM the type who likes peace and quiet.. LOL.. but the master bedroom windows face to the front.. and you don't hear noise with the windows closed.. really only if you're outside.. but I figure we could put more trees plus a sound system...?

I would imagine that should be fine. Especially if you landscape the yard down the road.

Hey! That'll keep 'em busy! Maybe they'll even kill some drivers and their passengers!
