I doubt my kids will be able to make it on their own here
Thats my #1 reason for leaving.

Its gotta be very dissapointing for the boomers right now- watching their kids either flee or live in their basements 'til their 40.

So very broken-

I'm just starting on my own right now. I think that as long as their children go to college and get a degree, they'll be fine. My boyfriend and I are neither upper class or lower class (both teachers), but can afford to live here. You don't need to fit into either of those categories to make it.

You know youre from Long Island when....your questions are answered with more questions.

Let's see...
Finite land mass/less than 10 years from the buildout.

You know what I think, what do you think?

I think it's not so bad... in 20 years Long island will be jam packed with aging baby boomers who are well into retirement and starting to pass on. There will be a glut of great jobs to be had and homes to buy. It'll be a reverse boom - housing values will drop and the young will move in once again.

MiddleIslander:

Your assumption would be correct except for the fact that the labor shortage will be filled with millions of eager third world immigrants - they will be buying those homes. You will be able to thank the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton junta for that.
