I am searching out Holbrook homes. Thus far we seem to like Sommerset Estates. How is it on Parkland Ct? Is it comparable to Sommerset?? Same schools? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Somerset houses are bigger and newer = higher taxes.

Parkland houses are older/may need work = lower taxes.

Parkland is in the sewer district, not sure about Somerset.

Both are in Sachem schools, but the kids will go to different elem schools, middle schools and high schools.

Somerset - Tamarac ES (a great school), Sequoia MS, Sachem East HS
Parkland - Merrimack ES, Seneca MS, Sachem North HS

I am not a fan of the Parkland development or the houses in there. I know a few people who live or have lived in there.

A lot of the houses have no basements and anything that hasn't been updated seems to be in bad shape, which seems to indicate shaky construction since they were build in the mid 70's. Houses 10 and 20 years older seem to have held up better. Plus, the architecture makes 60's split and hi ranch developments seem nice by comparison. I find the whole neighborhood to be an eyesore.

But that's just my opinion.

If you are looking in Holbrook, Parkland and Somerset are some of the better looking developments....

agw has basically explained it well....
Many Parkland homes have "gas" in addition to having "sewers" too, not sure about Somerset on that.
As dman said most homes in Parkland do not have basements, a few have partial, but if you are already beyond that criterion, then it should not matter anyway.
Good luck.

Oh, and most of the houses in there appear to built around 1979.

Not a good year for design, apparently.

I would say most were built in 1975/1976, but then again that could be a bad year too, who knows, how can we tell which years were bad dman ? Do you have a source ?
And is this conclusion local to a hamlet, town or county or you can use it as a rule for the entire country ?

I stand corrected. Parkland students go to Merrimac ES, Sequoia and East.
