Yesterday, after I got back from a nice drive in the country to visit a friend. A beautiful Long Island type of summer day.

well sunday morning my husband & I woke up, hiked about 3 miles through the state land that surrounds our neighborhood, drove about 10 minutes to pick up fresh bagels in a store where everyone's first language was english, came home & sat in our favorite chairs on the deck overlooking the lake across the street, admired the little pond we installed in our own yard this spring, read the paper & drank our coffee & all we heard was the sound of song birds & the breeze blowing through the giant oaks.
I live on Long Island( not on acres or the gold coast) & I love it

Sunday night. Listening to the windchimes, waiting for the deer to come up to our fence and listening to the quietness of our neighbourhood.

I think whats key in your statement is that you work hard....as do most of us.

Long Island can be beautiful....arguably more so 30 years ago before the population explosion.

It just takes a lot of money to afford the time to enjoy it.Cherish what free time you can muster.
Drive the North Fork...it can help offset the psychological blight of Jericho Turnpike.
If you can afford to live like youre on vacation on LI...its awesome.

Here we are end of July and I still havent been to the beach yet....59 of them are currently closed due to bacteria elevation.
(Thank you a-hole boaters for pumping your poop in the Sound despite readily available pump stations...hoo-ray for brown tide)

Ill get there at least once.

Unfortunately my second job eats up my weekends.

It's exactly why I left in 1988 and moved upstate. I now live in the woods and experience the back deck and wildlife (including black bear) on a 24/7 basis. While the black bear may seem dangerous, consider the crime on LI.

'88 was a good year to jump.

I do hear you Thunder. On LI we always had time to have fun after work, a BBQ with friends, square dancing at Jones Beach, hitting a club. I know things have changed but try to set one day aside or at least part of a day for some down time.

Is that Clark Street in North Babylon? I grew up in NB.

Ahh...back then, LI was like the show 'Wonder Years' (which was based on LI surburbia). Looking at the over development and lack of planning that took place then...it should have been called the "Blunder Years". NB, for instance, has no open land, other than Belmont Park, thanks to August Belmont and the NYS Parks Commission.

the Wonder years was based on Long Island suburbia? That's my favorite show and I never knew that!
