Hi, we usually go to Jones beach but this weekend, we are planning to go to Robert Moses beach with our young kids for the first time & I had a couple of questions:
Is the beach as, less or more crowded than Jones beach on weekends?
Is it generally less or more crowded on sundays compared to satudays?
I know the beach has 5 or 6 fields. Is any particular field more suitable for families than others?
I've heard that there are barbecue pits in Robert Moses. If there are, are they in a particular section/field of the beach or all over?
I would appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks in advance!
I have no stats to back it up but Robert Moses has to be less crowded than Jones Beach since it's further out east. I prefer Jones Beach and think it's a more attractive beach.
It's less crowded, but the level of the crowd depends on the weather and waves. Field 5 is where to take the kids, as it has a pretty expansive playground and a boardwalk.
I used to go to RM to avoid the bus loads that would come in from NYC to Jones Beach. As I recall, and this is very long ago, if it was a busy weekend, they would close the bridge by 10am because the parking lots were full. They would reopen in mid afternoon after some of the people left and the parking lots opened up again. Since it's been rather cool this summer they may not be getting the crowds that they normally get. Just something to consider.
Field two has a bbq area all the way on the right side when entering. Even has a pitch and put course (I believe that's what it's called). It gets crowded but I've always thought it was less crowded than Jones beach on any given day.
