When the thunder was winding down, I heard a weird noise in the sky. I had a hard time explaining it but to me it sounded like an implosion followed by a hissing noise. I am in Wading River. A person at work that lives in Pt Jeff said she heard the same thing but she described as sounding like one of those big fireworks with the sparkles falling down around it. That seems to describe it pretty well but where on earth (or on LI) would someone set off a professional firework during thunder storms?
Just wondering if anyone else heard it. I figured it was just something in my area but Pt Jeff is a distance from here.
I've heard blown transformers and it was not that kind of sound. Also, to hear the same noise at the same time over 10 miles away rules that out, I think.
I saw a plane that night fly right over my head going to macarthur with some really bad engine noise. maybe that was it?
Didn't sound like that. Judging by the few responses to this thread, I guess no one noticed it and I will never know what it was. Not a big deal. I was just curious. My house is still standing so all is good.
I'm in Port Jeff, and my wife last night said she felt the house shake after hearing a loud sound. It was probably later than the time this was posted though.

Might've been the vortex-- one of our resident posters tried to land a bait and switch post last night, but nobody fell for it.
Edit: Nevermind, that was two nights ago...
