NY Senate control will shape Long Island's future - Editorial - Newsday

The solution is simple: Long Island statehood. Remaining part of New York is an exercise in futility, a path to nowhere. What benefits does Long Island get by serving as Albany's cash cow for the benefit of New York City?

Why should Long Islanders have to fund New York Moderator cut: language removed (City)?

Long Island has no business in becoming a state, nor should the federal government be in the business of further dividing what is already too many states and politicians.

So tell us how you would fix Long Island's problems within the existing framework. What would you do?

Nassau and Suffolks problems have come home to roost. I honestly do not see problems getting any better. I just wonder how bad things will get!

Statehood will never ever ever never happen. Everyone should just move.

If the Democrats take over the Senate, we are in big trouble. I know we have a lot of Democrats or Liberals among us, but power corrupts. Albany is already a cesspool and neither party in Albany has my confidence but giving the keys of the city to Democrats only will absolutely destroy our state, unless you are a full DeBlasio supporter which means all hope is lost.

Like it or not, please vote Republican for NY Senate to save Long Island and NY State. Thank you.

Reading through posts on the NY forum, it would appear that upstate would love to see NYC and LI removed.

I would have to ask if making the 5 boroughs of NYC a state or district (like Washington, DC) would change things for NYS for the better or the worse?
