OTB kept saying the same thing, we will have security all over. And the crowd yelled What about outside....of course that got ignored. CP is a good school, small and family friendly. From all the meetings I went (non of my kids are at school age yet), I can see this is a tight community. Retired people live there for 30 years and they concern about kids safety. Not just NIMBY, there are 10 bus stops from CP LIRR station to casino. It just not safe for the kids.

exactly. when I do events at resorts, im there from 6pm to about 12am. after that, i would play some games. as i understand, the nassau facility will have an events theater which means people will want to gamble after a show. I would call them "shady" because they want to gamble after 11pm!

OTB gave up! The protestors won. First school speed zone cameras, now the gambling parlor! Hey we should protest more often, people!

Nassau OTB withdraws plans to build gaming parlor at vacant Fortunoff store - Newsday
Quote:
The Nassau Regional Off-Track Betting Corp., facing mounting opposition from a growing chorus of local, county and state officials, has abandoned its pursuit of the vacant Fortunoff building in Westbury to build a casino-style gaming parlor, Newsday has learned.
Of course they haven't given up altogether, but are looking for another site. I think the next protest about it, no matter where they choose, should be about forcing Nassau to hire a real casino operator, like Genting (who runs Resorts World at Aqueduct) instead of the old hack OTB losers who know nothing about casinos and still know nothing about horse racing after all these years, as evidenced by their losing money, not making money for years and years. These people, who were only given the jobs due to political patronage, not competency, should not have a chance to "learn to manage casinos on the job," especially when they couldn't even "learn to manage horse racing on the job" for decades. One, because they have shown their incompetence so completely, who in their right mind would turn a casino over to them. Two, because they're just political hacks "given" jobs by the politicians in charge and that really should be stopped because it's unfair to everyone else and they are not hiring for experience and competence, and I think they have a duty to do that for the taxpayers who are footing all the bills.
