I suggested that but the infamous "miss the family" squashed it. So they'll live below standard and freeze their butts off scraping ice and shoveling snow three months a year just so they can be with family.

Keep the house cooler in winter. Cutting down on energy costs helps big time. Sweaters and comfortors indoors my friend. Lol. You can save tons of money just by limiting energy costs.

Which is what a LOT of LIers do to cut costs. But should you have to be cold in your home, your sanctuary? You bust your tail at work to pay for that cold home you return to each evening. It's just so insane on this island. What is it about LI that people would rather be cold and bundled in sweaters rather than move? I'm a diehard LIer, so no judgment. Just curious.

It's doubly painful when you have to pay so much for an older (and not as well insulated) home too.
