You mean the Macy's (nautical) red star of success which looks just like those seen all over the former U.S.S.R?

I've seen some that are red but mostly silverish?

Like I said, I understand the general meaning and that they can be found in a lot of places. I'd just never seen it until house hunting on LI. Was curious if LI has a specific regional story to it. Seems not.

Default meaning of stars

they are just a trendy design right now. if they are red, white and blue it usually means somebody in the family is off at war. other things are it is the symbol for sailors throughout time

My barn star has been up at least 10 years. I purchased it in New England.

Now I want one. Are they expensive and can I get one in a store on LI or do I have to buy one online?

I'm thinking you could probably find one in a store perhaps a 'country' style store (there's one on 107 in Seaford but the name escapes me). Amazon has some, too.

Yard sales. They were big ten or fifteen years ago, now they're fading fast. Probably thousands in people's garages and basements gathering dust waiting for you to buy one.
