What's wrong with a teacher making over 100g in three years??
1. It doesn't include benefits, which raises the net cost by 1/3 or more.
2. The average teacher's salary for 2016 is under $44 according to Payscale.
3. Taxpayers on LI pay roughly 5x the national average in property taxes.
4. Taxpayers on LI make approximately the same national salary of approx $52K.
5. It's unsustainable and we can no longer afford this extravagance.
Don't you think their salary is reflective of the col on Long Island?
Isn't a teacher considered a professional?
Here's some info from 2010 census from an older CD post
Anyway, I want to add some 2010 Census data FWIW:
Nassau County
Median household income $93,613
Mean household income $121,567
Median family income (dollars) $107,934
Mean family income (dollars) $137,768
Suffolk County
Median household income $84,506
Mean household income $104,548
Median family income (dollars) $96,220
Mean family income (dollars) $116,195
They are teaching your children after all?
I don't teach but do work for nyc. I make about 120,000. Barely enough to make ends meet around here. The plan is to make as much as I can, and flee this state ASAP!
Anyone else who is crying about their taxes should too.
There are plenty of places down south that are far less expensive when comparing property taxes.
the fact that you or millions of other people work harder than teachers and earn less doesn't make teacher's the devil. In any case the rest of the salaried people are underpaid. Corporate america
I'm married to a teacher. I have no clue what free stuff you're referring to.

Someone brought up that teachers on LI deserve the $$ bc they pay LI property taxes...
A) so does anyone else in any other profession that owns a home
B) not all teachers own homes, some rent
Besides that, they dont work 12 mos a year, they should not be paid for 12 months a year.
The free stuff im referring to is mostly due to the 'teacher appreciation' bull**** (cuz teachers are not the most important profession) & how they can write off almost everything as a 'business expense' when it isnt
Teachers are treated very differently compared with other professions... They need to get over it & realise other people work just as hard & wayyy longer than they do.
They are very overpaid on Long Island. What makes them more worthy of $100k than other professions?
