Just go to HD and pick up one of the 50 gallon ones with a 12 year warranty. They are all pretty much the same. Make sure you change out your anode rod after 5 years and drain it every year to maximize it's lifespan. They can last 20+ years if you maintain it properly. The one in my house was installed in 2001. So we're going 17 years now.

I agree with Deeken , but I would suggest Lowes they are now carrying AO Smith as the store brand. The only thing we have had fail on our heater was the water supply tube which is a 10$ part and very easy to change. I looked at tankless but the cost to get one for a $10 savings isn't worth it, my gas bill most of the year is very cheap.

Agree with above. I have a new AO Smith, although both types have their advantages and disadvantages I still prefer tanks or indirect tanks. Also I had a John Wood before that lasted way past it’s intended lifespan, never drained it or changed the rod out either.

90% of everything suggested here. Except for the 12 year warranty. The inside of a 6 year warranty boiler is pretty much identical to a 12 yr warranty product. Longer warranties (and pretty much all extended warranties) that cost extra $$$ is never worth it.
Is there a reason why AO Smith is recommended over HD's Rheem brand? Is one significantly better?
Rheem is another good brand either is probably fine.
