Valley Stream zoning? (Elmont, Franklin Square, Lynbrook: houses, neighborhood, buyers)

My cousin and her fiance are house hunting. She's looking into Lynbrook, RVC, and Franklin Square, but is frustrated by pricing and lack of inventory. I suggested that she look into Valley Stream. But I'm confused by the zoning. What's the difference between 24 and 30? There appear to be several high schools. Which elem district goes to which high school?

Valley Stream can be 13 (also serves parts of Franklin Square and Malverne) 14 (Hewlett-Woodmere), 24 (also serves parts of Lynbrook and South Valley Stream) or 30. A very tiny portion, outside of the incorporated village, is Elmont.

GENERALLY, 13 goes to North, 24 goes to South and 30 goes to Central. But it’s more complicated than that, and you’d should call the VS central high school district to confirm. However, as of now, residents can opt in and out of whichever high school they choose. Demographics differ, but school performance across the board is pretty good.

The Gibson neighborhood is zoned for Hewlett-Woodmere south of Munro boulevard east of the far Rockaway tracks and south of Dubois west of the Far Rockaway tracks. The northern portion of Gibson is in 24: Buck elementary and VS South for 7-12.

Taxes are lowest in 30, next lowest in 24 a bit higher in 13 and a lot higher in 14.

We are zoned for 14 and we hear great things; we have friends in all of the districts and they are all happy.

Out of all VS SDs, whats your ranking of Schools? I have been hearing its in this order: 13 >24>30 with 13 being the best. Just curious what others think about these three SDs?

I’m in 14, so I can’t really speak that granularly about those three. None are bad, and given the school choice policy at the 7-12 level, i would just pick the nicest house on a block you like, which more often than not will put you in 13 or 24.

Some of 24 also goes to Memorial JHS and Central HS.

District 13 used to be considered the "best" for elementary. Now it's District 24. A tiny portion of Lynbrook is zoned for 24 and parts of North Valley Stream is zoned for Elmont (Alden Terrace School).

District 30 also encompasses that part of VS that borders North Woodmere. Forest Road School used to be considered very good. Not sure if it that way now. I would look into houses in that area, near North Woodmere. The high school for that area is Valley Stream South. The rest of District 30, which was always problematic, even before the change in demographics, has been on the decline.

BTW, Valley Stream North and South are 7-12 schools. Memorial JHS is 7-9 and Central HS is 10-12.

There was a lot of controversy about taxes in District 30 because of Green Acres. Not sure what happened. Something for prospective buyers to look into before purchasing.
