I have lived in my building for over 10 years now and im having a problem with my landlord. The first year i lived in this unit I was paying about $185 per month as my part of the rent. The landlord has steadily increased my rent to $315 this year and also makes me pay an additional security deposit each year I renew my lease.Even though i get a form from section 8 each time im recertified telling me my portion of the rent,(this time $188) he sends me invoices under my door telling me im past due $50.The landlord can only be reached by phone which is an answering machine which he never responds to.I have brought this to the attention of the section 8 office and they tell me nothing can be done.Does anyone out there have any advice they can give me?I consulted with a lawyer but i dont think i can afford him.
Sounds like a nice illegal apartment, if he is accepting a section 8 voucher then he can't bill your for the difference. Also once you have a security deposit paid they can't require a new security deposit each year, it carries over from year to year. You would do best to find a new residence and then report this person for abuse of the program, good luck.

refuse to pay the increases. He agreed to take the payments under Sec 8. Also do not give any additional security deposits.
It is illegal for landlords accepting section 8 to charge any additional money "under the table." I would simply refuse to pay the difference. However, you may find yourself out of a place so it's probably best to start looking.
