I was using Google Maps to find an office building in Bethpage where I was applying for a job and in doing so I noticed that the area near the corner of Haypath Rd and Farmers Av (around the junction of Plainview, Bethpage, and Old Bethpage) was tagged as "Swedetown Village". The only information I can find on such a place (if it ever existed) is that it carries a 11714 (bethpage/plainedge) zip. I couldn't find anything but the coordinates; it doesn't appear that there was any development carrying that name or any significant settlement of immigrant Swedes in the area. This could just be a clerical mistake or some aborted housing project that has long since been lost to history but I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge of this Swedetown Village, as much of my family has lived in that area for decades but not one of them has ever heard of such a place.
The only Swedetown Village that I can find any evidence of existence in the entire country is a trailer park somewhere in Oregon. Most of LI's subdivisions and border oddities are easily explained with some quick research but I've come up completely empty on this one.
I just looked it up after seeing it on Google maps when looking up an address in Plainview. I found almost nothing but some pictures of the bethpage/plainview area and general population/sightseeing/etc data
It's right by the Swedetown-Oyster Bay Expressway.
