I realized that I don't think I've ever seen rowhomes or semidetached homes on Long Island.

I've seen apartment buildings of varying sizes, but never rowhomes or semitdetached houses. Do they exist anywhere?

Townhouses, yes. Rowhouses like you'll see in the boros, no. But affordable land is available further out east, so development opportunities await.

For example, those nice new type of rowhouse you see being built in Red Hook...they could go up in the Mastics or Coram for a fraction of the price.

What is the difference between a townhouse and a rowhouse? I thought they were the same thing more or less.

And can you provide a google street view of the houses in Red Hook you're talking about?

Townhouses have less uniformity, or have separate building entrances for same structure.

Those Red Hook homes I was referring to are located at 109-125 King Street and 72-84 Sullivan Street.

There are townhouses straight out of Flushing on Cochran Place and Dartmouth Streets in Valley Steam. Very cute.

There are old semidetached wood frame houses sprinkled throughout the oldest parts of Long Island. I’ve seen them in Woodmere and I am sure they also exist in some of the older north shore village areas, too.

Interesting, I'll check them out!

I wish my town had some rowhome blocks.

Believe it or not there is a very short block of attached houses on Meadow St in Garden City, closest to the intersection of Franklin Ave.

Duplexes (what are called "twin houses" in other parts of the country) are fairly common in Stewart Manor.
